How To Respond a Writing Prompt
Sixth Grade Language Arts students work in four major areas of Language Arts instruction: spelling, grammar, writing, and vocabulary.
The emphasis is on having the students grow as writers and oral communicators. The philosophy governing the class is that a person becomes a fluent and capable writer and speaker through practice and specific feedback.
Students develop their abilities as critical thinkers and writers and grow in their self-awarenessthrough the instruction of specific types of expository writing: persuasion, compare/contrast, opinion and descriptive essays. Students also improve their reading and writing skills through instruction on vocabulary, grammar, and spelling.
The curriculum uses the series of Houghton-Mifflin English and Spelling and Sadlier-Oxford Vocabulary textbooks, workbooks, and supplemental material.
