CONVOCATION – Thursday, June 5, 2008
Convocation at Grey Nun Academy is a gathering of administration, faculty, 8th grade students and their parents. During the ceremony, faculty members are given the opportunity to recognize outstanding academic achievement by the students in each subject area. The students are awarded certificates which acknowledge their intellectual success. In addition to academics, service to the school community and athletic participation are also recognized.
The awards ceremony is interspersed with vocal performances, musical selections, and poetry recitations by the 8th grade students. The evening ceremony culminates with the presentation, by our school administration, of Grey Nun Academy’s most prestigious awards. These awards include: The GNA Leadership Award, the American Legion Award, Kathy Vivadel li Peacemaker Award, St. Marguerite D’Youville Christian Values Award, Academic Distinction, and Academic Excellence. The class officers join the class president in acknowledging the faculty and staff. A social gathering with light refreshments follows the ceremony.
GRADUATION – Saturday, June 7, 2008
Graduation is a celebration of the 8th grade class’ spiritual, academic, and social journey at Grey Nun Academy. This faith based event is celebrated in the Sacred Heart Chapel where the graduating students are surrounded by their parents, siblings and extended families, as well as GNA administration, faculty and staff. As a Christian community the students’ graduation is celebrated with a Catholic mass. The focus of this mass is the students’ continued journey with Christ. At the end of mass, each student is called to the altar to receive their diploma. Students that were presented Grey Nun Academy’s most prestigious awards during Convocation are publicly recognized after the presentation of diplomas. The accomplishments of the class are recognized by the class president. The ceremony ends when the graduates proceed to the altar for their final class picture. This picture will be displayed in the school’s entrance hallway as the graduates join the ranks of our GNA alumni.
