Parent Tidbits Illness The question of when to keep your child home from school is often a difficult one, especially when decisions must be made first thing in the morning. It is important, however, to keep your child home if he/she is ill or complaining about not feeling well. Children should not return to school unless they have been fever free for a 24 hour period. Children function more effectively Make sure that your child gets plenty of rest. Setting and keeping a bedtime is a wonderful gift you can give your child. It will help them to be alert and ready to learn each day! Please let us know of any allergies your child may have, especially to food. This is important information for us to have when planning special treats and birthday parties. Wearing jackets, sweatshirts, etc. is essential when the weather begins to turn cooler. We are outside every day, weather permitting, so it is important for the children to wear clothing that will keep them comfortable. Please remember to put your child's name on all school sweatshirts, vests, and sweaters. Please check our schedule (What we do, Where we go, When we do it) for special classes. For example, gym uniforms should be worn on our gym days and library books should be returned on library days. We welcome birthday celebrations throughout the year. A special snack may be sent in for the class to celebrate your child’s birthday. Please plan on sending a treat that is manageable and remember, we do have some children allergic to peanuts. Periodically during the school year we will be sending home scholastic book order forms. This is a great time for you to buy books for your child if you choose at a very affordable price. Bonus points earned will be used for classroom materials. Further information will accompany each order form. We have a wonderful computer lab at G.N.A. Each child works in the computer lab once a week throughout the entire year with "Mr. J", our computer teacher. He has a variety of age appropriate programs that reinforce many of the targeted skills in our Kindergarten program. If the school is closed for any emergency, or if there is a delayed opening or early dismissal, radio stations will make pertinent announcements. In addition to being alerted through the radio announcements, our wonderful volunteers will contact you via the emergency phone chain. Please be sure to review emergency plans with your child. We plan field trips that are both fun and educational for the children. We often need parent volunteers to chaperone the trips. Requests for parent volunteers will accompany permission slips and trip information. We look forward to seeing you on some of our trips. We make every effort to give each family a chance to join us on at least one trip during the year. Fire drills are held periodically throughout the year. All students will participate. Please review fire safety plans and a meeting place for your family at home. There are two school sponsored parties each year. Information regarding these parties will be available at our scheduled conference in the fall. All parents will be asked to contribute to these parties. Our homeroom captains will contact you. In addition to these special parties, the kindergarten celebrates Thanksgiving with a special program. Your help will be needed with this special celebration. Every morning we have a scheduled period for snack/recess. Your child is encouraged to bring a healthy snack. Please enlist your child's help in packing his/her snack and lunch. Please remember that we have a limited time in the cafeteria, so order "special lunches" accordingly.
