"Science is a way of thinking much more than it is a body of
knowledge. Its goal is to find out how the world works, to
seek what regularities there may be, to penetrate to the connections
of things ..."

Philosophy
and Goals
As a science educator I began my mission over thirty years ago to
help my students develop the understandings necessary to become
responsible, scientifically literate individuals. My values were
shaped by the grassroots efforts gaining influence at the time in
how citizens, empowered with knowledge of both their immediate
environment and of emerging global problems, could effect positive
change. My goals are to provide my students with technical knowledge
and to instill in them an appreciation for the interdependence of
all living things with their physical environment. These are the
tools they will need in making intelligent decisions in how science
shapes and affects their lives.
In addition, I am
committed to supporting my students in their growth as effective
learners. Over a three-year period in the Upper Division, students
work on developing both organizational and study skills as I combine
my efforts with those of my colleagues to insure that our students
are well prepared for their high school experience.
My teaching
duties this year include the following:
8th Grade: Earth Science
7th Grade: Life Science
6th Grade: An Introduction to Life and
Physical Science
6th Grade Religion
6th Grade On-Target Math
