7th Grade Science

"
A walk in the rainforest is a walk into the mind of God."

Birute M. F. Galdikas. Reflections of Eden  (1995)

Course Objective: Life Science

The seventh grade course provides opportunities for students to investigate life science topics.

Models are used to understand how DNA is translated in the making of the genetic code, how information learned from blood types can be used, and how Latin terminology is used to name an organism, among others.

Investigations involving our natural setting include pond water and soil testing, species identification, and species diversity studies.

Students complete a cross-curriculum project with the English department and the school librarian in writing a research paper on an environmental topic.

Their summer project involves a thorough study of a habitat of their choice, with observations made and reported back to classmates in the fall.  This course provides a strong foundation for biological study in their high school years.
