Class Policies:
Grading Policy:
Point values are assigned to every method of assessment. A grade
sheet is usually sent home within a week of interims and with the
final grade for the marking period. This report indicates the
percentage of points earned of the total possible. Students are
encouraged to keep a record of their progress. Extra credit
assignments are usually announced around the middle of the
marking period. Effort shown in completing extra credit may help in
making up for points lost in any area of assessment.
Homework Assignments
Students complete two or three brief homework
assignments each week which are either checked in class before they
are reviewed or collected during a binder check. Homework
contributes approximately 25 % of the points assigned for the
marking period.
Classwork/Class Participation
Students work both independently and
cooperatively on activities while in class. Observations are made
of each student's contributions to group work. Participation in
class discussions is both encouraged and evaluated. About 10 – 15%
of a student's assigned points for the marking period are based on
these evaluations.
Binder
All work is organized in chronological order. A
table of contents is kept in the binder to encourage good
organizational skills. Generally about 10 – 15% of points assigned
come from the two binder checks per marking period.
Quizzes and Tests
A quiz is given after each chapter is covered
and a unit test is given every four to five chapters. These
assessments contribute about 45 – 50% of the assigned points.
Confirmation Exam
An exam is given during mid-terms in January.
Students must earn at least a B- to have successfully completed the
confirmation preparation program. Retakes will be given to ensure
that all students are prepared. |
