Grey Nun Academy is committed to the academic, personal and spiritual development of its students.  In meeting this goal, a variety of age appropriate developmental issues are addressed through scheduled small and large group guidance classes.  Class topics include:

Anti-Violence and Bullying Curriculum

Children learn best when they feel safe, respected and cared for.  In our continuing effort to create a safe and positive learning environment, the faculty and staff of Grey Nun Academy have integrated a violence and bullying prevention program into the classroom curriculum.  The kindergarten through second grades will be participating in Second Step, while the third through fifth grades will use Steps to RespectBoth programs are research based and highly regarded curriculums.  They consist of activities and lessons designed to teach students several skills central to healthy social and emotional development, as well as, promote responsible and respectful student behavior.  They will learn:

 

·        Empathy skills needed to identify emotions.

·        How to respond to social interactions thoughtfully rather than impulsively.

·        Problem solving steps that promote a positive orientation towards peers.

·        How to manage their anger and other intense emotions.

·        How to recognize, refuse and report bullying when it happens to them or someone else.

·        Friendship skills that reduce the risk of being bullied, including how to make friends, join group activities and manage conflicts.

·        Emotional skills, such as understanding the feelings of others and managing emotions.

·        How to use positive values, specifically responsibility, respect and caring for others, as a guide for behavior.
