A stroll through our Primary Division is not unlike a walk in the garden; new flowers are budding and blossoming each and every day.
In a safe and nurturing environment, children embark on a journey which actively engages them in learning utilizing a multi-sensory curriculum geared toward their different learning styles.
Small classes, and two teachers in kindergarten, first and second grade provide the ideal environment for children to begin to explore their potential. Ideas are valued, and students’ natural curiosity is supported.
Supplementing the core curriculum, hands-on foreign language, technology, cultural arts and physical education programs enhance the unique gifts found in each student.
Significant emphasis is placed on the establishing strong academic, spiritual and character foundations. Free expression, respect for others, conflict resolution, leadership and spirituality are fostered.
Each primary division student has frequent interaction with their pairing partner, a student from the upper division, who takes their role as model, mentor and advocate to their younger charge very seriously. The result is a strong bond between younger and older students, affording opportunities for the very important life lessons of respect, kindness and spirituality to be learned by example as well as from classroom discussion.
The formation of a positive self image is paramount.
The sacraments of First Reconciliation and First Eucharist are important milestones in the spiritual development of our Primary Division students. Second graders spend a good portion of the year preparing to receive these sacraments, culminating in intimate, highly personal ceremonies that celebrate all that is good and special about each child, and about Grey Nun Academy. |
